Aerospace Precision Machining, Defense Mechanical Components and Ground Support Parts
Ground support equipment, test rigs and in-service vehicle fleets need mechanical components whose original supply has ended. We machine to drawing, and reverse engineer where the drawing no longer exists.
What we manufacture for this sector
Our scope is precision mechanical components and gearing, manufactured to customer drawing or to a supplied sample.
- Precision gears and gear sets to customer drawing
- Splined shafts, drive shafts and torque tubes
- Actuator and jack screw components
- Ground support equipment drive gearing
- Test rig and test stand gearboxes
- Winch, hoist and handling drives
- Turret, traverse and elevation gearing on vehicle fleets
- Gear couplings and flexible drive components
- Obsolete fleet spares from sample parts
- One-off and short-run precision machined components
Manufacture to drawing
Precision gears, shafts and machined components produced to your drawing and inspection requirements.
Reverse engineering from sample
For in-service fleets whose spares supply has ended, we work from the removed component so form, fit and function are preserved.
Short-run and one-off work
Quantities from one upward, which is usually what obsolescence support requires.
Typical obsolescence requests
This sector comes to us mainly for parts that are no longer procurable.
| What fails | What we supply |
|---|---|
| Ground support drive gearbox out of production | Replacement gearing reverse engineered from the worn set |
| Splined shaft no longer procurable | Shaft machined complete to the measured spline and fits |
| Actuator gearing worn, fleet still in service | Replacement gear set to drawing or sample |
| Test rig gearbox damaged | Rebuild, or new gearing to the existing housing |
| Traverse drive pinion tooth damage | Replacement pinion to the measured geometry |
| One-off precision component needed | Single-piece manufacture to drawing |
Working from no drawings
Most of the drive components we are asked for are no longer manufactured, and the original drawings are long gone. We reverse engineer from the worn part itself: the component is measured, the tooth geometry and fits are established, material is confirmed, and a replacement is cut to suit the existing housing, shafts and bearings so nothing else in the assembly has to change.
Where a gear has failed because of a design limitation rather than wear, we will say so and propose the change rather than reproduce the fault.
Quality and documentation
Euro Gear operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. EN 10204 3.1 material certification is available on request, with mill traceability. Components bound for the United Kingdom or European Union ship as partly completed machinery with a Declaration of Incorporation.
Lead times
We are built around planned work: shutdowns, turnarounds and scheduled overhauls booked in advance, where the component has to be right and on site for a known date. Tell us the outage date and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not offer field service or emergency breakdown attendance.
Common questions
- What quality approvals do you hold?
- ISO 9001:2015. We do not hold AS9100. If your procurement requires AS9100 or NADCAP for the component, we will tell you at enquiry rather than at quotation.
- Can you manufacture from a sample part?
- Yes. Reverse engineering from a removed component is a large part of what we do.
- Will you quote a quantity of one?
- Yes. Obsolescence support is usually single-piece or short-run work.
- Can you work to customer-supplied drawings and inspection requirements?
- Yes. Tell us the inspection and documentation requirement at enquiry so it is priced in rather than discovered later.
- Do you handle controlled or export-restricted drawings?
- Raise this at enquiry. We will tell you plainly whether we can accept the work before anything is sent.
Send us the part
A photograph of the nameplate and the worn component is usually enough for us to tell you whether we can help. Drawings are welcome but not required.
