EUROGEAR

Marine Gearbox Components, Deck Winch Gearing and Turbine Gearbox Parts

Working vessels and ageing turbine fleets share a problem: the drivetrain outlives its parts supply. We manufacture replacement gears, shafts and winch gearing for vessels in refit and for turbine gearbox rebuilders.

Marine and turbine drives we support

Most of this work reaches us through dry dock and refit programmes, or through rebuilders overhauling rental and installed fleets.

Gear and shaft manufacture

Replacement gearing and shafts for propulsion, deck machinery and handling systems, cut to the existing geometry.

Winch and handling drives

Drum shafts, slew drive pinions and winch gear sets, including units built by makers who no longer support them.

Turbine gearbox components

Planetary and helical stage gears and shafts supplied to gearbox rebuilders for their overhaul programmes.

What comes in from refit and overhaul

The constraint is almost always the dry dock window rather than the engineering.

What failsWhat we supply
Pitted reduction gear pinionReplacement pinion cut to the existing wheel and centres
Worn tailshaft journals and taperShaft machined complete to the original fits
Deck winch gear set beyond limitsNew gear set to the existing housing
Obsolete windlass gearing, maker goneInternals reverse engineered from the removed parts
Slew drive pinion tooth damageReplacement pinion to the measured geometry
Turbine stage gear scrapped at inspectionReplacement stage gearing supplied to the rebuilder

Working from no drawings

Most of the drive components we are asked for are no longer manufactured, and the original drawings are long gone. We reverse engineer from the worn part itself: the component is measured, the tooth geometry and fits are established, material is confirmed, and a replacement is cut to suit the existing housing, shafts and bearings so nothing else in the assembly has to change.

Where a gear has failed because of a design limitation rather than wear, we will say so and propose the change rather than reproduce the fault.

Quality and documentation

Euro Gear operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. EN 10204 3.1 material certification is available on request, with mill traceability. Components bound for the United Kingdom or European Union ship as partly completed machinery with a Declaration of Incorporation.

Lead times

We are built around planned work: shutdowns, turnarounds and scheduled overhauls booked in advance, where the component has to be right and on site for a known date. Tell us the outage date and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not offer field service or emergency breakdown attendance.

Common questions

Do you supply class-approved or DNV type-approved gear units?
No. We do not hold DNV type approval, which applies to complete gear units. We manufacture components to drawing and to measured geometry; where class survey or type approval is required for the assembly, that sits with the unit builder or the yard.
Do you work on offshore drilling equipment?
No. Drill-through and well-control equipment requires API certification we do not hold. Deck machinery, handling systems and propulsion components are within our scope.
Can you work to a dry dock window?
Give us the docking date at enquiry. We will tell you honestly whether we can meet it.
Can you make a tailshaft without the original drawing?
Yes, working from the removed shaft and the housing and coupling fits.
Do you supply wind turbine gearbox parts directly to operators?
Usually we supply the rebuilder carrying out the overhaul, since the gearbox has to be assembled and tested as a unit.

Send us the part

A photograph of the nameplate and the worn component is usually enough for us to tell you whether we can help. Drawings are welcome but not required.
