Pump Shafts, Compressor Gearing and Gearbox Rebuilds for Oil and Gas Processing
Refineries, pipeline stations, gas plants and terminals run large populations of pumps, compressors and conveyors whose drive components are long out of production. We manufacture replacements and handle oilfield gearbox repair for surface equipment — pumping, compression and pipeline service.
Rotating equipment we support
Our work in this sector is surface processing and transport equipment: pumping, compression, pipeline and refinery service.
- API 610 multistage pump shafts, sleeves and coupling hubs
- Pump and compressor step-up and step-down gearboxes
- Reciprocating compressor drive gearing and crankshaft-driven auxiliaries
- Pipeline booster pump drives and gear couplings
- Cooling tower fan drive gearboxes and right-angle drives
- Coker, sulphur and catalyst handling conveyor drives
- Loading-arm, winch and capstan gearing at terminals
- Agitator and mixer gearboxes in process and blending service
- Fired-heater and FCC auxiliary drives
Pump and compressor shafts
Shafts machined complete to the existing fits, including journals, keyways, threads and coupling tapers. Legacy pump ranges whose spares are discontinued are a regular request.
Gearbox rebuild
Teardown, dimensional inspection against drawing or calculated geometry, replacement of out-of-tolerance gearing, and reassembly with a documented build record.
Reverse engineering
For units where the OEM has withdrawn support or the original drawings are gone, we work from the worn component so the existing casing and piping stay untouched.
What we are typically asked for
Turnaround planning tends to surface the same problems, usually months before the outage.
| What fails | What we supply |
|---|---|
| Worn pump shaft journals and sleeve fits | Replacement shaft machined complete to the original fits |
| Discontinued pump range, no spares available | Shafts and gearing reverse engineered from the removed parts |
| Compressor gear train tooth damage | New gear set manufactured to the existing centres |
| Cooling tower drive failure | Replacement right-angle drive gearing and shafts |
| Conveyor reducer worn beyond limits | Rebuild with new gearing, journals restored to size |
| Agitator gearbox output shaft failure | Replacement output shaft and gear set |
Working from no drawings
Most of the drive components we are asked for are no longer manufactured, and the original drawings are long gone. We reverse engineer from the worn part itself: the component is measured, the tooth geometry and fits are established, material is confirmed, and a replacement is cut to suit the existing housing, shafts and bearings so nothing else in the assembly has to change.
Where a gear has failed because of a design limitation rather than wear, we will say so and propose the change rather than reproduce the fault.
Quality and documentation
Euro Gear operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. EN 10204 3.1 material certification is available on request, with mill traceability. Components bound for the United Kingdom or European Union ship as partly completed machinery with a Declaration of Incorporation.
Lead times
We are built around planned work: shutdowns, turnarounds and scheduled overhauls booked in advance, where the component has to be right and on site for a known date. Tell us the outage date and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not offer field service or emergency breakdown attendance.
Common questions
- Do you supply well-control or drill-through equipment?
- No. Repair and remanufacture of drill-through and well-control equipment requires API Spec Q1 together with API Std 16AR, which Euro Gear does not hold. Our work in oil and gas is surface processing and transport equipment: pumps, compressors, pipeline and refinery service.
- Are you API licensed?
- No. We hold ISO 9001:2015. If a component carries an API monogram requirement we will tell you at enquiry stage rather than at quotation.
- Can you make a shaft for a pump range that has been discontinued?
- Yes. This is one of the most common requests we see. We work from the removed shaft and the housing fits, so the pump stays in its existing installation.
- Can you meet a turnaround date?
- Tell us the outage date when you enquire. We are built around planned work and will say honestly whether the date is achievable rather than accept and miss it.
- What material certification do you provide?
- EN 10204 3.1 with mill traceability is available on request.
Send us the part
A photograph of the nameplate and the worn component is usually enough for us to tell you whether we can help. Drawings are welcome but not required.
